Inside the purifier is a purifying candle of advanced design. It has a micro-porous ceramic outer wall, lined with colloidal silver, and holding an inner core of Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) made from coconut shells.

The water passes through this filter to be made pure and safe in three ways:

The outer micro-porous ceramic pre-filter removes up to 99.9% of bacteria and 99% of suspended solids, by screening down to one micron.
The water then passes through the inner core of activated charcoal, which removes ad taste and odours, This core is protected by a bactericidal agent to maintain the purity of the water.
A small (and necessary) amount of dissolved minerals and active biocides are left in the water to prevent any possibility of re-contamination.

The purifier water may have a slight clay taste for up to 21 days. This is not harmful and occurs simply because the terracotta is very dry and unglazed. Emptying the purifier and completely refilling it each day during this initial period will ensure this taste disappears.

The 4 and 6 litre filters are fitted with 1 filter (known as a candle).

Updated review: I wrote previously that it came cracked which it did but after about a week we eventully got hold of the supplier who was able to send out a replacement for me. This is all thanks to FTN and their support staff (Tania) who checked in with me daily until my problem was resolved. Excellent service as always. Old Review: I received this and was very excited to get my filter system up and running. After assembling it (which is very easy to do) I believed I was on my way to having great filtered water. This was not the case :( The next morning I noticed a crack in the top section of the filter. I have been trying to get this sorted but thus far the supplier has not been very helpful in getting me a replacement. (FTN has done their best to help and is very good at responding to my emails in a quick manner but this hasnt' brought much help either in resolving the issue.) I was very nervous about ordering this to begin with because it's a lot of money, I did hectic research before the time and read every review I could find on the product. Overall I'm very happy that I went for it and believe that it's a good product to help eliminate some of the nastiness out of our water but the one thing I did not anticipate was that it would arrive damaged and that I'd have such problems getting this sorted out. This leaves me very disappointed. The water also has a slight clay taste but it's very mild and I believe one would get used to this after a while.

We love this product. It is all that it says it it in the product review. The water is cool and has a wonderful earthy taste. The service from Faithful to Nature - EXCELLENT!

So glad i bought it. I was looking at many filters / dispensers and this has proved to be amazing! First week it tasted abit funny but is so nice now. The water comes out cold, which is such an added bonus.

The tap lasted just less than 4 months before the spring burst through the plastic, resulting in continuous flow. This just before christmas, when you can be sure no-one will be able to help. The ceramic body requires some care when handling it. It is heavy, even with no water in. When replacing the top after changing the filter, it's easy to cause small cosmetic chips. If dropped it will certainly break. Water quality improved compared to tap water, however, a brown scum built up on the filter over time, twice requiring disassembly and brushing off the brown before normal flow was restored. A reverse-osmosis unit might have been a better choice, in retrospect.

Wonderful little filter! The 12 litres of water you initially have to filter through is my only issue but once it’s up and running it’s great. There’s a bit of a metallic taste initially that goes away. Overall a lovely product.
