Why we love it

Herbatint permanent hair dye is free of ammonia, resorcinol and parabens. We believe it is the safest option that currently exists on the market for those who do not wish to use henna-based dye. It contains propylene glycol which is on our list of ingredients to avoid, and some other ingredients (like Ethanolamine) that we would not usually allow. We think grey is beautiful, but if you are going to buy dye, and don’t want to use a henna product, this is the next safest option. This decision took us 2 years to make, and was swayed by the large amount of customer requests to stock this product.

Description
  • 1 bottle Herbatint hair colour gel 60ml
  • 1 bottle glycol developer 60ml
  • 1 sample of either shampoo or conditioner 15ml

Herbatint is easy to mix and apply and is fragrance-free. If you have used a henna based dye in the past few months, please note that using chemical dyes over hair colored with pure plant dyes can give unexpected results, which are usually much darker color than would normally be expected, because plant dyes don't “lift” as easily. Chemical dyes may also fade faster than usual because henna makes your hair smoother and less porous so the chemical dyes won't attach as well, and often wash out with fewer shampoos. Therefore, if you are going to change the type of dye you are using please, give it a few months between the dyes. To be extra vigilant we would suggest a strand test if you are switching from henna to chemical based or visa versa.

With Herbatint, you don’t have to make a choice between style and beauty on the one hand and looking after your health and supporting green practices on the other. The colour holds for as long as conventional permanent hair dyes and the depth and range of colour is not compromised by the lack of chemicals. With its unique dyeing process & quality ingredients, hair is left in far better condition.

Herbatint is not tested on animals and comes in biodegradable, recyclable packaging.

For your Information:
How does Herbatint penetrate the hair with colour in the absence of ammonia?
Herbatint uses plant-based alkalines, with a maximum PH level of 8.5 (ammonia is 12.5), which avoids structural damage to the hair shaft. This also means that once the colour pigments have been deposited, the hair cuticle can be completely re-closed, resulting in better hair condition and far less colour fade. The addition of Aloe Vera assists with the transfer of colour.

Are Phenylenediamines (PPDs) present in Herbatint?
Like all permanent hair colour products Herbatint does contain PPDs, the colour pigments used to alter your hair's natural shade. Though the research is not conclusive, it has been suggested that PPDs are potentially harmful. Herbatint contains the minimum possible levels – 0.8 – 0.9% in most of the colours, with a maximum of 2.1% in the darkest colour. Current European legislation allows for PPD’s to comprise up to 6% of the constituents of hair dyes. Herbatint also contains numerous vegetal extracts to reduce the impact of PPD’s. However, we recommend that pregnant ladies and people undergoing chemotherapy treatment do not use any permanent hairdye.

I have had allergic reactions to hairdyes in the past; will I react to Herbatint?
Most people who have reacted in the past do not react to Herbatint, as the formula does not contain many of the potential irritants normally used in hair dyes, and much lower levels of those that may cause irritation. Herbatint also contains Aloe Barbadensis, which is an effective anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant. However, there are a small number of people with allergic reactions to all kinds of substances and we strongly advise performing a skin test prior to tinting your hair.

Which herbal extracts are included in Herbatint?
Herbal extracts include Aloe Vera, which is rich in vitamins, enzymes, panthenol and natural minerals to protect and nourish the hair while colouring; Meadowfoam, rich in vitamins E and F, ensures better colour cover and longer lasting results; Witch Hazel is rich in essential oils and treats the scalp, Betula Alba (White Birch) is an effective hair tonic and Echinacea hydrates the hair.

How often should I colour my hair?
With permanent colour, we suggest colouring re-growth when it becomes noticeable (usually after 5 weeks).

Can I colour my hair after a perm?
Yes, with Herbatint you can, but use a shade lighter than you want (permed hair is more porous) and leave it on for only 10 – 15 minutes, unless you are covering grey, in which case leave it on for 30 – 40 minutes.

Does Herbatint work on bleached hair?
Yes, but remember to mix a gold shade with a natural if your target shade is 6N or above. 5N and below must be mixed with gold/copper on bleached hair.

Will Herbatint cover my grey?
Herbatint covers grey 100% on its first application, however, if you are more than 20% grey and you are opting for one of our fashion shades (Golden, Mahogany, Copper or Ash), we highly recommend that it is mixed with the appropriate natural tone. Natural colours are indicated with a letter N, from Black 1N to Platinum 10N. To cover mostly grey hair for example, 20ml of 4R Copper (the chosen colour) should be mixed with 40ml of 4N Chestnut (the corresponding numbered natural shade) and combined with 60ml of Glycol developer. Accordingly, if 20ml of 7R Copper Blonde is chosen, you would then mix this with 40ml of 7N Blonde and combine with 60ml of Glycol developer.
The higher the percentage of Grey that needs to be covered the greater the proportion of Natural colour that needs to be included.

Love the color and the fact that my hair actually grows a bit faster for the first time in years (normal hair dyes really damaged my hair so much that it was growing incredibly slow). Yes, it can be quite hectic on your ends, but this is by far the best alternative I've found up till now. Colouring your hair is not without it's issues!
Great product! It is nice and thick, making it easier to colour with, and it wipes off easily without staining your skin. It stains for a while when your hair is whet, so I wouldn't recommend using light coloured towels, and it doesn't wash out too quickly to become dull either.
So I used this for a second time, and though I love the colour, I do wish this was gentler on the hair. my once healthy hair is now a fried mess. I'm so disappointed , as I now have to cut my hair to get rid of the damage this caused. my hip length hair is now down to waist length. for a natural alternative, this seems a lot harsher than commercial products.
Great color and easy on the hair. I've been colouring my hair for years with chemical laden colors and since I've been using Herbatint, the condition of my hair improved and actually started to grow again.
this really impressed me. I have thick waist/hip length hair, and bought 2 boxes as the length of my hair usually calls for 2 or 3 boxes. I mixed the first one, not messy at all , thickens up nicely. applied it and it covered all my hair without going to the second box, wow. the colour is amazing, it is a bit more burgandy than i expected but still lovely, after a few washes it became a bright beautiful red. my hair is still as healthy as ever, I cant recommend this enough!
