Why we love it

Milk kefir grains are live active cultures consisting of yeast and bacteria existing in a symbiotic relationship. Adding the kefir grains to fresh milk yields a delicious probiotic drink in about 24 hours.

Description

Milk kefir can be enjoyed plain, flavoured, or used in many ways; in salad dressings, baking bread with, and making ice cream.

Our Milk Kefir Grains:

  • Are reusable and will keep on growing indefinitely!
  • Cultures on the kitchen counter top at 20°-30°C.
  • Are suitable for use with cow or goat milk.
  • Milk Kefir Grains are shipped in a dehydrated state. 
  • May be used to culture coconut, soy, or rice milk once rehydrated in dairy milk. Grains require regular refreshing in dairy milk.
  • Please note: nut and seed milks yield inconsistent results.

I was disappointed with this product. The kefir grains are so small cannot find them even straining through very fine muslin. I have been able to make a few batches by taking a small amount of cultured kefir and adding to fresh milk. Almost like making yoghurt. Picture of grains is misleading. I bought this kefir starter about a month ago... I have been very diligent following all the instructions, and using a very fine plastic tea strainer, the milk is thickening but just tastes sour...I have used kefir before so I know how it tastes and how to cultivate it. What really disappointed me was the grains when they arrived were tiny, like grains of sand, making it even more difficult. So Disappointed but i will persevere.
The culture rehydrated and started working within 24 hours. Since then it produces at least 500ml of kefir every 12 hours. this was double what I was expecting, as the instructions said that 500ml of kefir would culture approximately every 24 hours. I presume this is because of the warm weather during January, so be prepared to buy a lot of milk and drink a lot of kefir if you are culturing this during summer. The final product has a very pleasant tangy, yoghurt taste as long as it is not left to culture for too long.
This is a continuation of my review yesterday. I decided to try find a grain in the kefir....l found some tiny grains, they hadn't hydrated at all, even after changing the milk religiously every day for about 3 weeks. What a waste of milk, time and mony. Very annoyed and disappointed. Tipped the lot down the drain...
Have heard so much about kefir and its health benefits. I have now made my own and can drink this healthy culture every day. Thank you for this awesome product.
